Why technical insurance?

Property insurance generally covers major risks such as fire, water damage, theft or natural events. But a modern business also depends on complex equipment: production machines, IT installation, cash register, 3D printer, crane, photovoltaic installation, cold room, medical devices or communication systems.

Technical insurance covers this sudden and unforeseen damage, whether it comes from an external cause such as a fall, collision or overvoltage, or from an internal cause such as a handling error, overload, material defect or short circuit.

What can be assured

  • Stationary machines: presses, production lines, heating installations, elevators, machine tools or industrial equipment.
  • Mobile machines: construction machinery, loaders, nacelles, transportable tools or equipment used on several sites.
  • Electronics and IT: servers, computers, cash register systems, telephony, medical equipment, measuring devices or security installations.
  • Data carriers: restoration of data, programs, software or additional costs to continue operation.
  • Special technical equipment: refrigeration installations, distributors, photovoltaic panels, laboratory devices or technologies specific to your sector.
  • Objects in assembly: machines and installations during delivery, assembly, testing and commissioning.

Machines, electronics, assembly: three different needs

Machinery coverage protects installations in operation, shutdown or undergoing maintenance against accidental and technical damage. Electronic coverage mainly targets computer equipment, communication systems, devices and data. Assembly insurance works like project insurance: it covers the objects to be installed from delivery to site until commissioning.

According to Swiss insurers such as AXA, Zurich, Allianz, Helvetia or Baloise, these guarantees can be offered separately, as a package policy for the entire technical fleet, or integrated into an All Risk formula.

Technical operating loss

The real cost of a technical claim is not just the repair. A stopped machine can block production, delay deliveries, require urgent rental of equipment, cause loss of turnover or create additional costs. Operating loss or additional costs guarantee can cover these consequences, with a duration, deductible and calculation to be defined precisely.

Points to compare

  • Basis of compensation: new value, current value, increased market value or rules specific to recent machines.
  • Extent : goods listed individually or flat rate coverage of the entire technical fleet.
  • Internal risks: short circuit, calculation error, overload, material or manufacturing defect.
  • External risks: fall, collision, water, humidity, theft, vandalism, transport or assembly.
  • Data : restoration, media, software, recovery costs and distinction with cyber insurance.
  • Exclusions: wear, insufficient maintenance, known defect, consumables, manufacturer's warranties or risks already covered elsewhere.

For which companies?

This coverage is particularly useful for workshops, businesses with critical installations, restaurants, medical practices, laboratories, construction companies, garages, printing companies, IT companies, industrialists, craftsmen and SMEs whose turnover depends on specific equipment.

Our support

Finwise inventories your critical equipment, analyzes their impact on business, checks maintenance contracts, manufacturer warranties, deductibles and duplicates with property or cyber insurance. We then build proportionate technical coverage: neither too broad nor dangerously incomplete.
